Why Gautam Gambhir was dropped?

India opener Gautam Gambhir was dropped for the upcoming series of first two Test Cricket matches against Australia while Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay were named in the 15-man Indian squad.

Apart from Dhawan, call up for Maiden Test call-up and Uttar Pradesh seamer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was selected for his good performance against Pakistan and England with a place in the Indian Test team for the first time.

Gautam Gambhir is playing poor performances last matches, will now leading the India A side in the 3-day practice match fight against Australia on February 16.

The batting order of the Australia series test matches also has regulars like Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.

Harbhajan Singh, who was not selected for the third and fourth Tests against England, makes his way back to the Indian squad while Piyush Chawla does not find a place. R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha are the other spinners in the line-up.

In the pace side, Ashok Dinda and Ishant Sharma are the other options available for skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni apart from Bhuvneshwar.
