New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori believes a victory over World Cup trans-Tasman rivals Australia will contribute to lifting national spirits devastated by the deadly earthquake Christchurch.
The team of 15 people desperate efforts for news about heart caught in Tuesday's earthquake of 6.3 magnitude which killed at least 65 people, with the team conceded left shocked and numbed by tragedy .
"The greatest thing we can do is to win the Australian hopefully help bring some relief to people who are so rough for a home," said Vettori.
"It was a tough day. Five or six of the team and management team based in Christchurch, so it's been a difficult time for them to discover that their families are safe."
"We all have family or friends in Christchurch, it has been difficult. We feel it too, and the Canterbury community is in our thoughts and prayers. "
"It's hard to deal with its context. The guys think about the wives and children at home who are struggling with the consequences. It can be a distraction, which will be a testing time."
New Zealand players who face the defending champions Australia in Nagpur on Friday, is regularly used Twitter throughout the day in search of information and offer his condolences.
"Everybody families are good, but very flat and numbness in the team," veteran Scott Styris writing. "The training was difficult."
Opening drummer Martin Guptill said thoughts were with their fellow team.
"Thoughts are with those in Chch today. Horrible thing to have happened again," Guptill tweeted.
